Akademgorodok is a part of Novosibirsk city, located 30 kilometers south of the city centre. It was founded in 1957 and became the largest scientific center to the east from the Urals: the majority of research institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences are concentrated here. Within Akademgorodok there are about 35 research institutes, Novosibirsk State University, Physical and Mathematical School and many IT companies. Akademgorodok is located in a woodland area and borders the Botanical Garden and the Novosibirsk Reservoir.
