Akademgorodok is a district of Novosibirsk, located thirty kilometers south of the city center, was founded in 1957 and is the largest scientific center east of the Urals: most of the institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences are concentrated within its boundaries. The scientific center houses about 35 research institutes, Novosibirsk State University, the School of Physics and Mathematics, and many IT companies.
