Aleksey Kuzmich Rebrov is an outstanding scientist in the field of physical gas dynamics, rarefied gas dynamics, thermal physics and vacuum technology. Born July 30, 1933. Graduated from Kharkov Aviation Institute in 1955. He studied at the graduate school of the Kazan Aviation Institute (1957-1960). Candidate of Technical Sciences (1962), the topic of the dissertation is "Investigation of heat transfer in rarefied space". Since 1961 he has been working at the Institute of Thermal Physics. Since 1966 he has been the head of the laboratory of rarefied gases. Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1972), the topic of the dissertation is "Investigation of the expansion of a gas into a low-density medium". In 1990, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics and Control Processes. In 2000 he was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Scientific activity began with participation in the development of the method of fire (jet) drilling of rocks. He made a great contribution to the establishment of regularities in the dynamics of rarefied gases. Studies of heat transfer under free convention in rarefied gases were reflected in the development of a method for calculating the thermal state of high-altitude fighter equipment and in the thermophysical substantiation of the Saturn high-altitude astrophysical observatory. The creation at the Institute of Thermophysics of a unique vacuum gas-dynamic complex and the study of the gas dynamics of low-density jets and non-equilibrium processes in them (namely, translational, rotational, vibrational relaxation, condensation, cluster generation) made it possible to simulate spacecraft jets, in particular, during satellite docking. The same research served as the scientific basis for the invention and development of economical steam jet pumps with a low reverse flow of oil vapors. In recent years, he has been conducting fundamental research to substantiate various jet vacuum technologies, in particular, gas-jet deposition and the synthesis of nanoscale systems. Under his leadership, 32 candidates of science were graduated, 13 of them became doctors of science, one became an academician. He is an organizer of two International Symposiums on Rarefied Gas Dynamics (in 1982 and 2006) and some Russian conferences. In 2018, the All-Russian Conference was held at the Institute of Thermal Physics of the SB RAS "XXXIV Siberian Thermophysical Seminar", in honour of 85th birthday of Academician A.K. Rebrov. Member of the Russian National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. For a long time he was Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics" and a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Symposium on Rarefied Gas Dynamics (see the Symposium Board of Honour).
